Installation

Bear Creek Bronze tiles can be installed using virtually the same products as ceramic, marble and stone tiles. However, construction adhesives and industrial epoxies can also be used. For fireplace enhancement a high temperature silicone adhesive or a high temperature mortar is recommended.

Grouting

Masking the tiles prior to grouting is strongly recommended to reduce clean-up and eliminate scratches to the surface of the tiles. Use care when removing excess grout as acid and other chemicals used can alter the color of the metal. Water and a soft brush are generally recommended. Make sure the tiles are dried thoroughly if liquid is used to clean up excess grout.

Warranty

The owner or installer is responsible for inspecting the tiles prior to installation. Due to the nature of our hand-cast process, Bear Creek Bronze tiles will vary slightly in color and each have unique characteristics. Please inspect each tile thoroughly upon delivery. No returns or adjustments will be allowed after installation. Note: As previously indicated, Bear Creek Bronze tiles are manufactured with the premise of allowing the natural aging process to occur. All recommendations in the care and cleaning instructions are merely suggestions. Neither Bear Creek Bronze nor National Aluminum Brass Foundry, Inc. can be held responsible for alterations to tiles caused by the use of chemicals.

Cutting

When cutting solid metal tiles any of the following can be used: band saws with bi-metal blades, chop saws with metal cutting wheels, hack-saws, or any other cutting device specifically designed for metal.

Care and Cleaning

As Bear Creek Bronze tiles age, they will develop a natural darkening known as “patina”. We manufacture our tiles with the premise of allowing this natural aging process to occur. Be aware that once this process has begun, complete reversal is impossible. However, if you wish to brighten aged tiles, we recommend using a metal cleaner/tarnish remover on copper, bronze, or white bronze tiles. A brass cleaner is suggested for use on yellow brass tiles. A metal polishing creme works well on any of the alloys to brighten and shine the tiles and can be used instead of a metal cleaner. Most metal cleaners are not suitable for aluminum, therefore a metal polishing creme is recommended for this alloy. If using a metal cleaner/tarnish remover, we highly recommend following with a metal polish or light coat of a paste wax to seal the tiles and prevent further darkening. Follow the instructions carefully when using any type of cleaner or polish. An occasional light coat of a paste-type wax applied to the tiles will help preserve the original color. If darkening or patina is not desired, simply seal the tiles with a clear lacquer.

Note: It is always recommended to apply a clear lacquer to our tiles when installing outdoors or in highly humid locations.
